Pathfinder 3: distractions

It’s been a long time since I posted. Too long. This doesn’t mean that I haven’t done anything or haven’t thought about the Pathfinder.

It means other things kept getting in the way. I guess progress isn’t as linear as I thought it would be….

Discus

Quite unexpectedly, I bought myself a glider. I was looking for a very specific glider, and expected one to become available at the end of 2025. Things went unexpectedly different and the glider became for sale earlier. I jumped on the occasion and bought the glider: a beautiful Discus.

There is some work to be done after buying a glider: transferring ownership, having the trailer checked, looking at some of the basics: batteries, parachute.

The goal for this glider has always been two-fold: fly cross country and make it a platform for experiments.

Flying

Right after I got the Discus, we had the best spring in a long time, so many of my weekends were used up by… flying! Last year was much more “productive” for projects, due to all the rain. I felt I had some catching up to do this year and flew as much as I could. I started to fly cross country on the Discus, and I joined a competition for a day with my clubs Duo Discus.

Outlook

While I’ve not had time to work on the Pathfinder in a dedicated way, I did spend some time on it. Also, the competition I flew gave me some insights. As the cross-country season is over it’s peak, I am carving out some time to work on the math side of things. To be continued…
